Objectives

The objective of this project is to contribute to the development of a European Union Radio-Navigation Plan (ERNP) and support the European Radionavigation policy.

The overall project includes:

  • provision of a detailed inventory of the systems currently in use
  • documentation of radionavigation requirements addressing commonly-used systems and applications
  • provision of information on current system planning
  • definition of the compatibility and interoperability between existing systems
  • proposing a methodology for evaluating the benefits of systems with a reference to its users

Features

Telematica is subcontractor to HELIOS Technologies for the development of the European Radionavigation Plan under EC DG TREN contract. Telematica is responsible for road applications, LBS and Safety & Security related applications, as well as for frequency issues and implementation & maintenance of the ERNP.

The output of the project will effectively be a draft ERNP, including:

  • EU policies for European Radionavigation Systems
  • plans for the operation and cost recovery of radionavigation systems
  • rationalisation plans for withdrawing systems
  • guidance to users with respect to system/service certification and system selection
  • a European Radio-Navigation System (ERNS) document, containing a summary of civil user requirements and system descriptions.

All common-use radionavigation systems will be covered, including stand-alone systems, augmentations and other complementary systems. All countries of the European Union and accession countries will be addressed. Other countries relevant to a coherent ERNP should also be considered, including neighbouring countries/services as well as those upon which the EU depends.

Project Status

The project has been running since December 2003.
