Objectives

The main objectives of GATE are

  • the supplementation of the development and validation of the Galileo Satellite Navigation System
  • the provision of a development & test environment for different applications and mainly
  • the creation of a national development & test infrastructure which
    • allows an early rating of the Galileo system capabilities
    • offers the possibility of pre-developing Galileo hardware (receivers,...) and services
    • improves the German competitive position and therefore the chance of investment in the Galileo business

Features

GATE is supposed to simulate the existence of the Galileo System to users - if possible without limitations. Therefore signals have to be generated in order to be evaluated by a receiver to estimate a user position.

This general request can be fulfilled by a number of possible system architectures. Every architecture has special limitations which disturb the whole system. The aim is to find the very specification which matches prior requirements.

To be open for future developments and experiments it is necessary to build a flexible, efficient and extendable system architecture. This a fundamental design principle for the GATE development.
